Hadith 3: Pillars of Islam

Ibn Umar reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

بُنِيَ الْإِسْلَامُ عَلَى خَمْسٍ عَلَى أَنْ يُعْبَدَ اللَّهُ وَيُكْفَرَ بِمَا دُونَهُ وَإِقَامِ الصَّلَاةِ وَإِيتَاءِ الزَّكَاةِ وَحَجِّ الْبَيْتِ وَصَوْمِ رَمَضَانَ

Islam is built upon five: to worship Allah and to disbelieve in what is worshiped besides him, to establish prayer, to give charity, to perform Hajj pilgrimage to the House, and to fast the month of Ramadan.

Repentance

On the authority of Abdullah, the son of Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:

I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say, “Islam has been built on five [pillars]: testifying that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, establishing the salah (prayer), paying the zakat (obligatory charity), making the hajj (pilgrimage) to the House, and fasting in Ramadhan.”

It was related by al-Bukhari and Muslim.

Bismillah-ir-Rahman-ir-Rahim, start your actions accompanied by the name of Allah.

بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيمِ Bismillah-ir-Rahman-ir-Rahim (In the Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Most Kind). "Bismillah-ir-Rahman-ir-Rahim " is the first of the first chapter Surah al-Fatiha of the Quran. The fact that the word of Allah, the Quran, Starts with this first verse, alone signifies the importance of this verse and further emphasizes the need to start all our tasks in the name of Allah (God). When one says "Bismillah" before starting anything, it means " I start this action accompanied by the name of Allah or seeking help through the name of Allah", seeking blessing thereby.
